Flower or Weeds?

Sometimes I prefer weeds to flowers, even when they bear thorns.  It seems to me that the thorns protect the flowers so that they can embrace the sunshine without fear of being picked.   Something to think about….

I will be the gladdest thing
Under the sun!
I will touch a hundred flowers
And not pick one.

  1. It is interesting that you mention weeds. Theresa Ann Moore has written many poems, quite unknown actually. Maybe you know about her. She has a line that goes something like this:”Wild weeds with chirping crickets are proliferating the countryside far outside the busy city….”

    1. Thank you! I found the poem – Beautiful Weeds. Here is the ending:

      The unsophisticated untended garden thrives
even after darkness blankets searching eyes
In the stillness dimmed images bestow
a calming sensation as the moon supervises
