A Friend or My Shadow

I am always willing to point out my faults, my shortcomings and my failures. But when someone else points out my faults, my shortcomings and my failures – well, that is a different matter altogether.

Friendship is about candid and open debate.  That’s what makes it exciting and moving forward….

“I don’t need a friend who changes when I change and who nods when I nod; my shadow does that much better.

  1. Mmm!! Unfortunately, I know exactly what you mean. They say that imitation is a form of flattery, but I find it irritating and many a time I have to bite my tongue. It is extremely difficult to maintain a friendship when that person copies everything that you do, and doesn’t seem to have a mind of their own. A major life lesson in compassion for me, I think. And one that I have not yet completely mastered. Thank you for bringing this to my attention. Blessings and hugs xx

    1. Your visits are always inspiring – always make me think!!! What I find interesting is that we will hold our individuality hostage so that we can be accepted – not for what we are, but what we think that others want us to be…

      1. So very true. When I met my first spiritual teacher, I tried to imitate her in every way, and to say the things I thought she wanted to hear. It took me some time to realise that we can never walk another’s path.

      2. Immediately after i left the comment for you, I saw this quote on another blog – Synchronicity!!
“Read, every day, something no one else is reading. Think, everyday, something no one else is thinking. Do, every day, something no one else would be silly enough to do. It is bad for the mind to continually be part of unanimity.”
