The Experience Journey

I knew a great deal at 18 and even more when I was 21.  By the time I reached 25, I was not quite as certain.  That was the age when I realized experience was the mechanism for integrating knowledge.  And that was when the journey began…

  1. So true. Theory is helpful, but practical experience completes the picture. I can attest to that happening in my life right now. I have just completed a course in Digital Photography, and I’ve learnt so much about the theory behind taking good photographs. It would, however, be useless if I didn’t put those teachings into full application through the practice of them. Thank you, Rebecca.

  3. I would add to that; 6 months or maybe 6 years as a plumber. I am never so lost and so stupid and uneducated as when I need a plumber. Hats off to plumbers!

    1. Thank you for the name! I had never seen anything like it before and when I walked passed the tree, I had to take a photo. There was no smell and it does not look edible. I am learning to take my camera everywhere with me!!!

  6. College is where I learned how to think; where I learned how to learn. That’s not the only place where that can happen, but it worked for me! Thanks for another thought provoking post.

    1. And thank you for stopping by and adding the conversation. I agree – college is the place where I was able to experience the idea of “how to learn” at a relatively young age. I ran out of money before finishing my degree – so returned to university much later. Now, that is when I realized that learning could happen at any age. The brain cells were still functioning…and that opened up all sorts of possibilities.

  8. So very true. I worked as a janitor part time while I was a university student. I often thought how clean the world would be if everyone had to be a janitor for a month or two.
