Fitness – Mind & Body Connection

When I was in college, one of my friends was having trouble adjusting.  She asked me to attend a counselling session with her for emotional support. The session lasted less than 45 minutes.  At the end, she was assigned two tasks:

1)       Enrol in an exercise program.

2)       Get a good night’s sleep.

We are learning more about the dynamic connection between our mind and bodies.  Exercise builds muscles; it also generates a sense of well being that allows us to embrace life with all of its challenges and possibilities.

“A vigorous five-mile walk will do more good for an unhappy but otherwise healthy adult than all the medicine and psychology in the world.”

  1. I don’t usually get time for a 5 mile walk. Sometimes 5 minutes is all I get. But I often day dream about walks I have been on or would like to do. That’s good for the mind muscle if not the leg muscles!

    1. I agree about the time constraints. Five minutes sometimes all we get – but it makes all the difference. Interesting point you brought up about visualizing. You have just given me another research project! And I love research projects….

  2. That view wouldn’t make me want to exercise. It would make me want to sit at a table and write, or and read a good book, while sipping coffee and eating a pastry. 🙂

    1. I confess – I had geleto! But I promise it was only the small size. Well, maybe it was the medium but, in my mind, it was small. If anyone could climb these hills, it would be you! Your exercise and running routine is an inspiration to all of us!!!

      1. Thank you! I do what I can with what time I have. This past week I’ve been attempting to return to running. Going slow. I’ll have more to say on it soon.

I forgot to say, Wonderful photo of a beautiful view.

    1. It was one of those special days that you remember quite clearly even years into the future. When I felt the warmth of sunshine all around me, I understood why the ancients worshiped the sun. It seems natural to turn our faces to the heavens.

    1. I agree! Especially as we get older and believe that we are more fragile. We have more aches and stiff joints, so we hesitate to start moving because of the pain. That’s the time, we need to move. It is always nice to have someone remind you to move. Thank you for stopping by! It must be morning on your side of the world. It is close to 11 p.m. in Vancouver!! Have a wonderful weekend…
