“May it be a light to you in dark places, when all other lights go out.” – Galadriel
“For thus it is spoken: Oft hope is born when all is forlorn.” -Legolas
J.R.R. Tolkien, The Fellowship of the Ring
J.R.R. Tolkien’s writings carried the message of hope. Even when all seemed lost and evil appeared invincible, hope would prevail. Darkness cannot stand against light, even the flame of a small candle. A spark of courage, a glimmer of valor was all that was needed to hold back the murky shadows. Many times, bravery comes quietly during the times of great uncertainty, gaining strength when you remember what you love and those who you cherish.
“Do you remember the Shire, Mr. Frodo? It’ll be spring soon. And the orchards will be in blossom. And the birds will be nesting in the hazel thicket. And they’ll be sowing the summer barley in the lower fields… and eating the first of the strawberries with cream. Do you remember the taste of strawberries?”
J.R.R. Tolkien
Strawberries……I am having some tonight. The new season has begun. One of my favourite quotes is “Instead of cursing the darkness, light a candle.” I have tried to find the source of the quote but keep finding different answers. The hope given by light is so powerful. I remember standing in the dark doorway after the Sept 2010 earthquake and wanting a light. Any light ,and all we had were a few tea candles and the light of the mobile phone. It got us through till the welcome light of dawn. That and the voice on the radio talking us through the horror. The woman on duty at National Radio at that time was a genius; I will never forget her calm reassurance.

What a profound illustration. A voice in the darkness, the tea candles – those are the moments when courage is born. Thank you so much for sharing…And enjoy those strawberries!

Hope and… to believe! I think it’s important to expect the best from life, and do everything because dreams come true in real life! Spend a day of joy.

How truly spoken! Expectation is a powerful motivator – to have arms wide open to the best that life offers. That is hope personified.
