Peace on Earth

Christmas is now only two sleeps away!  I have found that sometimes the countdown is the best part of Christmas.  The anticipation of the Christmas meal, the bustle of wrapping presents, and the sweet-smelling warmth of baking keeps us happily and peacefully occupied.  And yet, the reality of Christmas for many in our global community is conflict and suffering.

“Peace on Earth” is the second theme that has stayed with me throughout the years.  This week, I want to explore “peace” as we understand it within the human experience.  Peace is the hope of all, the seemingly unattainable dream that inspires us to persevere in the face of insurmountable odds.  Jimi Hendrix once said: “When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace.”

As we celebrate this joyous season, may we reach out and express the power of peace through love.

    1. Thank you so much for welcoming to the community. I remember the first time you stopped by!!! I’m looking forward to 2013 – I know that we can be a positive influence for good. As Margaret Mead said “Never doubt that a small group of people can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has…”

  1. For me, one of the loveliest moments of the Olympics was the performance of John Lennon’s “Imagine”. I think for a moment or two there, it was possible that the whole world was at Peace as we watched that scene in our millions. Imagine if we could make those moments last.

    1. I got goosebumps as I read your comments. I remember – “Imagine all the people living life in peace. You may say I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one. I hope someday you’ll join us, and the world will be as one.”

  2. As I continually seek peace, God is always reminding me that it starts with me. Peace in my home. Peace in my relationships. Peace in my little corner of the world. I have to extend peace through love in order to receive it. I fail with life’s frustrations but I never quit seeking. I hope you had a wonderful Christmas and that the New Year brings much joy and many adventures. 🙂

    1. I agree with your wholeheartedly! There have been times when I allowed bitterness to creep in. There was no peace in me or in the household that day. I especially like when you said: “Peace in my little corner of the world.” We seem to know how to do “peace” on a large scale because we can always blame someone else if it doesn’t work out. We find it difficult to implement where we have the most influence and the most control. Think of a world where we all took care of our “corners.” Happy New Year!!!
