“Why are they sad and glad and bad? I do not know, go ask your dad.”
Dr. Seuss
Shinichi Suzuki, violinist, educator and humanitarian said that “Children learn to smile from their parents.” Even so, whenever I think of a perfect smile, I remember when my baby boy smiled at me for the first time. It was pure, without any artifice and it was all for me.
Gena Lee Nolin, actress and model, said, “My children are the reason I laugh, smile and want to get up every morning.”
Smiles begin in homes, around the dinner or computer table, sharing a pizza or working on a math equation. Children deserve our very best smiles.
“If you have only one smile in you, give it to the people you love. Don’t be surly at home, then go out in the street and start grinning ‘Good morning’ at total strangers.”
Maya Angelou
The world would be a better place for sure!

I rather like the title – sounds like we have a lot more fun, even if we are obsolete!!!!

I love that song – and Louis Armstrong made it a household tune. The songwriters were Joe Goodwin, Larry Shay & Mark Fisher:
When you’re smilin’ keep on smilin’
The whole world smiles with you
And when you’re laughin’ oh when youre laughin’
The sun comes shinin? through

I look after my nearly 3 year old grandson twice a week, and you are so right about the smiles. When he smiles at me it is a moment of sheer pleasure for both of us. As you say, it is without artifice. A golden boy giving a golden gift to his grandma. Wonderful!

I have been doing some research on smiling and found that children can smile up to an average of 400 times per day. Adults it seems can only average 15 per day. What happened!!!!????

Yes, he is!!! I think that in many respects, I had a better understanding of his writing when I was a child, than as an adult.
Here’s a Dr. Seuss quote that I think you will like:

His simplicity in writing is amazing and thus has a great impact. Presently, kids in India are aware of his poems unlike my time.

I agree! For someone who led a complex life and who had no children of his own, it it amazing how he was able to create simplicity in his words…

Smiles begin at home, how true. Children learn from parents, true, however children can teach us far more! Let’s learn each day, from our children, children on the street, and everywhere, actually. They have a world to teach us.
