“A wonderful fact to reflect upon, that every human creature is constituted to be that profound secret and mystery to every other.”
Charles Dickens, A Tale of Two Cities
The most profound experience is to know, unequivocally, that your words have been understood and valued. Whether there is mutual agreement is irrelevant; it is enough that the message has been sent and received in good faith. I call that engagement. Both sides have agreed to the exchange, shutting out all the “noise” of the environment to focus solely on creating meaningful and productive outcomes.
Engagement is recognizing that the words and methodology may be flawed, but the intent to transfer an idea, thought, or sentiment is genuine and worthy of consideration. Arguably, connecting with another human being is our greatest undertaking. It is a noble endeavour that demands our best commitment.

Connecting with ones world is to feel, how his words are used. That seems to me (often) very difficult.

I agree wholeheartedly. It is seeing beyond the words into the heart. There must be complete trust on both sides! Thank you for joining the dialogue – very much appreciated! 🙂

I thought LOL was “lots of love” instead of “laugh out loud.” I imagine that all those people who received my texts with that sign-off thought I was a little odd! But then, as Jane Austin said many years ago:
“‘For what do we live, but to make sport for our neighbours, and laugh at them in our turn?’”

Ah!! Texting A – Z. Some new ones to add to my list. How exciting. Yes, to be heard and understood–very important. Did you ever talk to someone who looks with a blank stare the other way when you are talking? No use talking.
