Thank you, Deb & Cat

Dear Deb & Cat,
We have never met…

There is a possibility that we may have passed in the street without knowing that we had somehow connected through your artistic endeavour. Yes, it is your mural that appeared overnight along a path that runs under a bridge, leading to a busy street. The one with the brilliant sun shining over a tree, three tulips, a flowering shrub.

I was in a hurry to complete a scheduled task. Until…

The spreading branches, with fresh leaves called to me. There was an enveloping warmth, a feeling of renewal, the arrival of spring.

You reminded me that we live in a beautiful world of light and colour. Pablo Picasso once said, “Art washes away from the souls the dust of everyday life.” Your mural exemplifies this idea.

Looking back, I have no recollection of the “urgent” task. Instead, I have a memory (and photos) of the moment I spent with you via your art.

Wherever you are, whatever you do, I know that you will accomplish great things.

    1. What was amazing was the speed in which this artwork appeared. As you can see, the mural is made of coloured chalk, so was created with impermanence in mind, which adds a dynamic twist. Deb & Cat gave their art to the “universe” knowing that its timeline was short. And yet, they took pride and joy in their efforts, embracing the present. And that was enough.

      2. I will be keeping watch – stay tuned. Street art is a bold statement because it offers itself to be buffeted by the winds, rain, snow. Chalk is easily removed, but even mural with hardier material suffer from weather conditions. I have a feeling that there is a analogy to life somewhere here…. 🙂

  4. This post is absolutely delightful, most enjoyable. I love the Art as you have displayed it. I hope that you do meet, would be such a happy visit. However, you have given the opportunity for more of us to enjoy this happy scene. It speaks of spring, of nature as God designed it. The drawing and the colors used are very happy and uplifting. Thank you for sharing, Rebecca. You brought joy to me this evening through Art!

  5. I second the motion, as to a post that brings a smile. Because there is a smile in the beauty of those magnificent creations. Thus so as to have one believing their youthfulness can but awaken the sleepers who are in positions of responsibility. Hence to do what is necessary to preserve the ecology that inspires this work, will in fact be influenced to listen to what these pictures are saying, in representing so wonderfully undiluted nature’s natural beauty. What a door opener to Spring, this timely post of yours, dear Rebecca!

    1. My dear friend, how very well said. To awaken the sleepers is a powerful thought. Youth is the promise – eager with expectation. We must keep that energy and not slip away into the abyss of mediocrity, to believe that our voice is not enough to make a difference. Awake! Awake!! Awake!!! This is our time, this is our place – let us live.

I remember reading your first posts and thinking – “I wish that I could have a conversation over tea with this amazing blogger.” And it has come to pass.     1. This is the first time I have come across Deb & Cat and now I will be activity checking the murals for their names. I am delighted that you enjoyed the artwork. I agree – colour against concrete reminds us that humanity seeks nature even in the midst of a city structures that humanity builds for strength and endurance. We remain within and belong to nature. I try to remember the quotes – but I do have a collection to keep me focused on what is important. Sending hugs and happy thoughts for the weekend ahead.   10. Art should cover all that ugly concrete! The color scheme reminds me of a technique we learned in grade school. Using crayon we’d use many colors randomly and heavily on the paper, then completely cover the whole thing in heavy black crayon. Next we’d gently scratch through the black to “draw” whatever. Does anyone remember this scratch technique? Thanks, Rebecca, for finding beauty everywhere! Hugs!

    2. Wow. Yes, I do remember that technique. It was very far back in the dim recesses of my brain, but your comment brought it forward. I loved that technique when I was a kid. Revealing the colors seemed so magical.
