Welcome to Poetry in the Evening,
I am your host, Rebecca Budd, and I look forward to sharing this moment with you.
February 14th, Valentine’s Day is a special time of year to celebrate love and appreciation for the special people in our lives. Whether a significant other, a family member, or a close friend, it is a wonderful opportunity to show them how much they mean to us. Valentine’s Day is a time to reflect on the joy and happiness that comes with expressing our love and appreciation for those around us.
To celebrate this special day, I want to share the poem, Loving you – is to be alive, by Jean-Jacques Fournier, from his poetry collection, “Love, by any definition, A Collection of Love Poems”.
Thank you for joining me Poetry in the Evening.
Wonderful. Happy Valentines Day!

Heartfelt thanks, my very dear and loyal friend. Your supportive and ongoing interest, remains a strong and motivating encouragement in the nourishment of my poetry writing addiction. One that keeps my supposed brain, I believe it is called, alive and active.
Nice to see your happy smiling face and hear your laughter on FaceTime, earlier on. Also ever so touch for your promoting the existence of my book, Love – by any definition – Happy to hear that all is well for you and Don and of course your mother, now in her early nineties. Please extend my good wishes to her. I should be receiving copies of my new and 19th book of poems, Poetry in Brief – painting a mind – my third in the pocket size format. Hopefully in 3 or 4 weeks and I will send you a copy.
Thanks again, Rebecca, especially for being such a good friend.

HI Jean Jacques, I recognised your name and the style of this poem immediately. Are your books available as ebooks?

Yes Robbie, absolutely, all my books are also available in ebook. If you have any difficulty, please let me know. As well, my new 19th book, Poetry in Brief – painting a mind – will also be available in ebook today or tomorrow. Thank you for enquiring. It’s nice to find that to continue to be interested in my scribbles. If memory serves, it is a few years now that you have been reading me and I thank you for that too. For me that makes you a special person, as all who are fellow enthusiasts of the language poetry. Happy reading!

Hi Jean-Jacques, your ebooks don’t seem to be available to South Africa. That sometimes happens. I have, however, been able to acquire a paperback of version of CHAOS – a human side of man from Amazon UK. It will arrive at the end of the month and I look forward to reading it.

You should be able to get the ebook version via lulu.com click on ebook, on my book page, or follow this link. https://www.lulu.com/shop/jean-jacques-fournier/poetry-in-brief-painting-a-mind/ebook/product-ppmgp9.html?q=painting+a+mind&page=1&pageSize=4
If you still have a problem, I will get it to you some other way… save flying to South Africa myself to deliver it in person, despite this being quite tempting! To stay in touch, you can send me your email… To use an old addage, keep me posted.

Hi again Robbie,
As I mentioned via Rebecca Budd’s mail, your email sirchoc[at]outlook[dot]com. doesn’t seem to work for me from here in Canada. Do you have another I can use to communicate with you?

I must honestly confess that I do present my beloved ones with something like flowers now and then, but not on this valentine’s day! To put it bluntly, I find this very cliche! Although your presentation with such a beautiful poem makes it very special, somehow. Thank you.

Thank you for your visit and insightful comment, Alaedin. Valentine’s Day has been celebrated for many years, however there is a commercial aspect to this day. Some people may feel that celebrating Valentine’s Day is a great way to show appreciation and love for their significant other, while others may feel that it is a commercialized holiday that is not worth celebrating. I find the history fascinating because it dates back to Rome during the third century.

Many, many thanks, Shey. Your support, encouragement and enthusiasm are all very much appreciated.
I read somewhere that according to legend, Saint Valentine was imprisoned for performing weddings for soldiers who were forbidden to marry. As a result, he became a symbol of love and romance. Don’t quote me on that, but it does make a great myth, doesn’t it?

Thank you Dave! I enjoy reciting Jean-Jacques poems. When I spoke with him last night he said that for him, writing poetry was an addiction. It is the best kind of addiction – words coming together to create poetry and magic.

Lovely tribute to love, Rebecca. St. Valentine was a literal martyr for the Author of Love!

Thank you, Mary Jo! Isn’t it interesting that where there is love there is endurance. I read that St Valentine is also the patron saint of epileptics and beekeepers.
