Earth Day is a global event celebrated annually on April 22nd. It is a day to raise awareness about environmental issues and promote actions to protect the planet. The first Earth Day was celebrated in 1970 and since then, it has become a worldwide movement with millions of people participating in various activities to support the cause.

  4. That is true that every day must be Earth Day. With our blood and flesh, we need Mother Nature as our only home and must care about her. Though there are a lot of conflicts, we have to try our best. If we get over our selfishness, we can manage it very easily. There is no alternative!! Thank you, dear Rebecca, for reminding us.

    1. Many thanks for adding to this conversation. The industrial revolution brought about significant advancements in technology, transportation, and manufacturing. It allowed for mass production, which led to increased economic growth and improved living standards for many people. However, as you noted, the rapid industrialization also had a profound impact on the environment.

      The burning of fossil fuels and the release of pollutants into the air, water, and soil have led to significant environmental degradation. Deforestation, soil erosion, and loss of biodiversity are just a few of the consequences of industrialization. The effects of climate change, such as rising sea levels and extreme weather events, are also a result of human activities.

      I am grateful that we are now looking forward to ways in which to mitigate the negative impact of industrialization. The development of renewable energy sources, such as solar and wind power, and the implementation of environmental regulations have helped to reduce pollution and protect natural resources.

      Even so, much more needs to be done to ensure a sustainable future for both humanity and the environment. I believe that we can make a difference, however small that may seem.

    1. As you may know David Suzuki lives in Vancouver and is known for his undaunted support of environmental initiatives over the past decades. His call to action is in these words: “We’re in a giant car heading towards a brick wall and everyone is arguing over where they’re going to sit.” I am out of the car and walking, recyling and consuming less.     1. Oh Marian – it is a day of celebration all around. Many thanks for your visit and comments which are very much appreciated. I was thinking about William Shakespeare this month, especially now that we are commemorating the 400th anniversary of his First Folio. My goal this year is to continue reciting his sonnets. They bring such joy to me. April is the month of my birthday so I thought of Sonnet 73, which I recited and recorded last September.
