Fitness is for life!
Stop for rest along the way.
And sometimes it is OK to have a bite of chocolate cake!! (I thought that I would add that in since it is a start of a new month)

I have figured out that there will always be someone who can walk faster, climb higher, run longer, swim faster and jump more gracefully. Exercise is not a competition or a way to prove that you have superior strength, dexterity or elegance.
It’s personal. Exercise is taking care of you. It is doing the right thing, at the right time, for the right reason.
The fun reason: I joined a belly dance class and ended up dancing on the Vancouver Sea Wall.
The peaceful reason: Learning intricate moves from a Tai Chi master.
The dramatic reason: Tap dancing to hip hop music with kids 20 years younger than me (that didn’t last long).
The friendship reason: Taking my walking polls out for a spin with my friend.
Whatever it is, it is being comfortable with your setting and what you are doing. It is finding a home.
When I was in college, one of my friends was having trouble adjusting. She asked me to attend a counselling session with her for emotional support. The session lasted less than 45 minutes. At the end, she was assigned two tasks:
1) Enrol in an exercise program.
2) Get a good night’s sleep.
We are learning more about the dynamic connection between our mind and bodies. Exercise builds muscles; it also generates a sense of well being that allows us to embrace life with all of its challenges and possibilities.

Another wonderful exercise room!
We all agree that health is the best wealth.
On the other hand, “unhealthy” is very costly. It can drain our entire savings.
I must confess, that motivates me to keep on exercising.

I enjoy looking at fitness magazines when I am waiting in the line-up at the grocery checkout. They are usually strategically positioned right next to the gourmet food magazines which, I must confess, I looked at first. The colour-coordinated workout outfits fit smoothly across the firm and resilient bodies of youthful women in their 20’s and early 30’s. They are usually holding some form of weights that seem to defy gravity or, alternatively, they are in a yoga position that I didn’t think our bodies could accommodate. There is not one bead of perspiration on their foreheads or the appearance of red cheeks, a telltale sign of exertion. The point is, they look great! But so does that yummy chocolate cake on the cover of the gourmet food magazine.
Isn’t it interesting that we partition our lives by what we wear?
Christmas is four weeks away – the countdown is on until the feast and holiday cheer season. It is a wonderful celebration with the lights, hot chocolate and cookies, ham, turkey, potatoes, cranberries, eggnog…I can hardly wait!
There is only one little problem: January 1st comes shortly thereafter. This is resolution time! I am one of those people who make resolutions. It is always the same, year after year: I will lose the 7 (it seems to be a consistent number) pounds that I gained over the holidays by the end of January. There is a reason for the deadline. January 31st is when my resolution enthusiasm losses much of the pizzazz.
This year, I thought that I would be brilliantly proactive. I am making a December 1st resolution to increase my fitness regime over the next month. To get me into the spirit, the week will be dedicated to fitness. I can hardly wait to start – (I still have a few days rest until December 1st – I don’t want to rush things along)
