“I cannot lead you into battle. I do not give you laws or administer justice but I can do something else – I can give my heart and my devotion to these old islands and to all the peoples of our brotherhood of nations.”
“The lessons from the peace process are clear; whatever life throws at us, our individual responses will be all the stronger for working together and sharing the load.”
“In remembering the appalling suffering of war on both sides, we recognize how precious is the peace we have built in Europe since 1945.”
Queen Elizabeth II
Queen Elizabeth II is the constitutional monarch Canada and 15 other sovereign states and their territories and dependencies. She is the head of the 54-member Commonwealth of Nations. She has reigned for 60 years, the second longest for a British monarch after Queen Victoria who reigned for 63 years.
Having seen the movie “The King’s Speech”, I found a different view of Queen Elizabeth. I remember when she was crowned, but I was very young then and didn’t have the knowledge to understand it fully. Now that she has been on the throne for so very long, I wish I had paid more attention along the way. Unfortunately she has been overshadowed by the “activities” of other members of her family.

Our Queen has staying power! Her grace and elegance in the face of many difficult situations is remarkable. When I was researching her quotes, I found one that made me smile: “Like all the best families, we have our share of eccentricities, of impetuous and wayward youngsters and of family disagreements.” Unlike the rest of us, the whole world sees these eccentricities and disagreements unfold in the newspapers. Thank you so much for stopping by!! You made my day…

What an outstandingly gracious and wonderful person and role model for us all. We should strive to follow, not only mimic, her example. I was old enough to remember her strength, attitude and example to all of us during WW II.
